Great Aunt Annabelle Visits Me in a Dream

"And this is the story I need to tell you..."

My great aunt Annabelle appeared to me in a dream early in the morning of April 1, 2017. I was sitting in bleachers and Annabelle appeared, wearing an elegant gown. I expressed surprise that she was alive, and began to walk with her. She was frail, her posture becoming more stooped as we walked, but she was lucid, and eventually said, "And this is the story I need to tell you…" But I woke up before she had the chance.

As is often the case, there were synchronistic origins at play here. I had heard about a parking lot collapse at the Fruit Bowl, a produce market on the outskirts of Cumberland, Maryland, near where Dad grew up, and where Annabelle lived all her life, as far as I know.

Also, before I went to sleep that night, I had listened to Rodney Crowell’s album Close Ties, which had just been released. One of the album tracks is called “Forgive Me Annabelle.”

Clearly, Rodney's song title and the Fruit Bowl's parking lot collapse got the acetylcholine in my brain fired up though, as fictional Special Agent Dale Cooper noted whole breakfasting in Twin Peaks, nobody knows why we choose the dream images that we do.

If only I knew the story Annabelle was about to tell me.
