Happy 90th Birthday Willie Nelson!

Willie isn't necessarily always on my mind, but I do enjoy thinking about how great the man is.

Today is Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday. Act accordingly.

It is well-known that Mom loved Willie Nelson, but I have a feeling that the moms of most people my age loved Willie Nelson. Willie is a Mom thing.

But not just moms though. I am not sure I would trust someone who didn’t like Willie Nelson at least a little bit.

Willie Nelson has certainly enhanced my life, sometimes in unexpected ways. Certainly, I love his music – I made a 90 song playlist for his birthday and I am fretting about songs I left off it –but there’s more going on here.

Take, for example, the day I got to talk about opera singer David Bispham on the 100th anniversary of his death – which happened to be the 79th anniversary of my mom’s birth – while standing at Bispham’s grave dressed as Willie Nelson. You can read about this in my entry, “By Jove, That Was Bully”.

Being able to have that experience merely as myself would have been fine, but having the opportunity to do this while dressed as Willie Nelson was the surrealistic cherry on top of a delicious ice cream sundae of coincidences. One of the prime “plate-of-shrimp” moments of my life, fully enhanced by Willie Nelson.

Happy Birthday, Willie Nelson! Light one up for me.
