If There are Wireless Earbuds in the Matrix, Why Do They Keep Showing Up in the Men's Room?

I started going to Planet Fitness in the mornings this week, for the first time in a long time. I haven’t really done much once I get there, but I’m building up to doing more as time goes on. I was there this morning, and got ready for work there, though I did stop briefly at home on my way to work.

Once I got to my office, I walked into the men’s bathroom, where I noticed a single wireless earbud, and the plastic case that would contain its missing mate (see Fig. 1). When I saw it, I remembered that when I was in the locker room at the gym, I had also seen a single wireless earbud, along with the plastic case that would contain its missing mate. They were sitting on the sink, in a practically identical configuration as the earbud/case combo I was now seeing in the work men’s room.

What was this about? Pure coincidence? Was I, as my friends suggested, now in the Matrix? Or maybe I had not seen the earbud/case at the gym at all. Maybe this was a false memory, like that Sinbad movie, or the tear that I apparently never saw roll all the way down Cameron’s cheek in the Ferris Bueller museum scene.
