It's Vinylly Friday: Nick Lowe!
A Week of All-Time Lowes

I rolled the 20-Sided Dice of Musical Destiny last Friday. The dice instructed me to listen to a bunch of Nick Lowe albums over the coming week, and so I did. 40+ years of Nick Lowe tunes, from Brinsley Schwartz through to Los Straitjackets.
You could say it was a week of all-time Lowes.
In addition to listening to Lowe solo albums, I dove into Rockpile’s classic Seconds of Pleasure album. I blew through a nice stack of Elvis Costello and Graham Parker records produced by Lowe.
I even tipped my hat toward John Hiatt’s classic album, Bring the Family, with its killer band (Hiatt, Lowe, Ry Cooder, and Jim Keltner) that morphed into the Wilburyesque “supergroup” Little Village.
It was a fun week of music, but the methodical approach I devised for documenting my listening over the course of the week fell by the wayside (see my unfinished chart). That’s OK though. As Nick has been known to say, “Bash it out, we’ll tart it up later.”
I think I’ll do just that. Having bashed out a week of listening to the discography of one of the most underrated guys in music, I will revel in all the groovy sounds for now, and maybe return for a more thorough analysis of Lowe’s work at another time.
