My New Social Media Strategy

Highly important information.

This is a public service announcement.

As of next weekend (Jan. 18-19), I will be reconfiguring my social media strategy. Here are the bullet points for your consideration:

  • I will be deleting Facebook. Not deactivating. Deleting.

  • I had experimented with Threads but I have deleted it.

  • I will be continuing to use Instagram for now, but on a limited basis, following a much smaller group of IG accounts than I currently am.

  • I will be findable at Bluesky (@rfwilhelm.bsky.social).

  • I will also be findable at my longtime email address ([email protected]).

  • And, of course, I will be findable at this website (richwilhelm.substack.com).

The news that Mark Zuckerberg is even more of a tool than we previously realized — and that’s saying a lot — has got many of us wondering how we’re going to handle our social media going forward. While I have outlined my plans above, I fully realize that there is no “one size fits all” solution to this problem. Each one of us has to figure out how to navigate the next four years and beyond, both on and off social media, for ourselves.

If you feel like you can be a light in the darkness of Zuckerworld, then I wish you the best in that realm. But it’s time for me to retain my energy for other things.

This does not mean I plan to become a digital hermit, which is why I am posting this entry. I hope it doesn’t seem performative. Just making some moves and wanting to let people know, that’s all.

Meanwhile, here’s a photo of a key lime pie in a pie safe:
