No Kings!

A fine afternoon in Washington, D.C.

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Washington, D.C. And the weather was nice too. It was surreal to be sitting in the shadow of the building where the January 6th insurrection took place. Don’t try to tell me they were just “tourists.”

Donna and I woke up early yesterday morning and drove down to Greenbelt, Maryland to catch a Metro train into Washington, D.C. to participate in the No Kings! rally. Even though we had not gotten much sleep, our coffee and a kickass playlist kicked in so that by the time we hit the Archives Metro stop, we were all fired up (to quote the great Pat Benatar) for the rally, which was fantastic.

If you’ve been paying attention to such things, you’ve seen Trump and his various toadies pushing the line that the No Kings rally was actually the “Hate America” protest. Potential participants were branded as “radical” bad people who hate this country. Many of these flunkies implied that it was likely that violence was going to happen as one or many more of the rallies that were happening around the country.

They couldn’t have been more wrong about No Kings! The D.C. rally was well-organized and run. Supposedly 200,000 people who clearly love this country were there—I don’t know if that was true, but it very well could have been. Everyone was excited to see Senators Chris Murphy and Bernie Sanders speak, as well as Bill Nye the Science Guy, but the audience was just as attentive to other speakers, who might not be as well- known, but who are all playing a role in combatting the Trump regime.

And after the rally was over, we all dispersed. Quietly. In an orderly fashion.

The D.C. rally was just one of many that happened across the country and even throughout the world. People are fed up with this Trump guy and his toxic personality. But more importantly, people are fed up with his toxic MAGA/MAHA policies.

I don’t need to say much more, but I do have some photos to see below. I will close with this:

Sometime late yesterday, or early today, the current President of the United States, posted an A.I.-generated video on his social media, in which he fantasizes about commandeering a fighter plane and dumping a lumpy brownish liquid on rally-goers in New York City. All to the tune of Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” (let’s hope Loggins’ legal team is now at work).

Therefore, we all have a choice: do we side with the millions of people exercising their First Amendment rights yesterday, or do we side with the president who fantasizes about dumping shit on these people?

There are no third options.

If you are siding with the president this weekend (or any weekend really, but especially this one), I think you need to seriously evaluate your life choices.

There were many creatures like this among us.

People enjoyed my hat.

Bill Nye the Science Guy!

Bernie!

After the rally, Donna and I found ourselves at Wok and Roll, the restaurant housed in the historic building that used by be Mrs. Mary Surratt’s boarding house. I will do karaoke there someday.

Our friend Kurt met us at Wok’n’Roll! It is always great to see Kurt, Congressional Cemetery staffer and author of the excellent book, Presidential Grave Hunter: One Kid’s Quest to Visit the Tombs of Every President and Vice President.
