Rich and Chris' Adventures in Princeton

When a world-class record store is a block away from a presidential gravesite, it's a weird sort of nirvana for me.

Princeton, New Jersey, is a weird sort of nirvana for me: Grover Cleveland and Aaron Burr are buried there, just down the street from the Princeton Record Exchange (PREX), a world-class record store that never disappoints. This is an irresistible juxtaposition for me. I hadn’t been there in more than 10 years, and Chris had not yet seen Cleveland’s gravesite, so we made it our mission today to visit Princeton.

Mission accomplished.

Earlier in the week, I had prepared for the trip to PREX by gathering two bins worth of CDs to trade in for store credit. It is beyond the scope of this breezy Friday night entry to explain my relationship with CDs right now (two words: it’s complicated) but I’ll write more about my current philosophy on CD ownership in a future entry.

The bottom line, though, is that those two bins earned me a decent amount of store credit that allowed Chris and me to pick out some cool things to take home with us. Crucially, the hauls we took home weren’t nearly as heavy as the hauls I dragged into the store. This sparked joy.

As usual, visiting PREX was pure joy. And it’s always great to catch up with Grover and Aaron.
