The Road Ahead
Thoughts from the edge of a lake.

Donna and I spent our 30th anniversary last month enjoying a long weekend in Maine. It was our first vacation alone in 20 years and it gave us a wonderful opportunity to reconnect.
While the majority of our time in Maine was focused on enjoying the present moment, we did talk about where we’re at in our lives, where we’d like to be, and how we’re going to get there. In short, we were contemplating the road ahead.
Most of the content of those talks is between Donna and me and will remain so. At the same time, those vacation conversations have led me to a basic reconsideration of every aspect of my life, and some of the insights could find themselves in the entries of this journal.
My foremost thoughts about this concern why I continue to keep and share an online journal? What’s the purpose of this, other than that I’m a writer and writers write? Is this still worth doing?
Ultimately, I think it is, though I might change things up a bit. I recently tried to get back to posting a 217-word entry every day, but I’ve decided that’s too much pressure. I do like some kind of regular posting schedule, so I’m thinking about trying a weekly approach. Once a week, probably on Wednesdays, I’ll check in with a post that will hopefully clear my mental decks in an entertaining fashion.
And, while those entries will always be free for anyone to read, I’m thinking about adding a paid subscription to this journal as well. I’ve got a few different potential long-term writing ideas that I might like to play around with here. Should anyone decide to pay for a subscription, they’d get access to these additional entries.I should stress at this point that I am not pursuing the paid subscription idea strictly for the money, though there is no denying that being paid for one’s words is certainly a form of validation (but not the only validation, of course). I think creating a second tier of entries here might help me clarify some ideas that are clearly trying to take shape in my brain. If anyone would like to take the leap and take a peek at these entries, that would be great. If not, that’s OK as well. Everyone will always be welcome to subscribe to my weekly Wednesday entries for free.
As always, I appreciate your support.
