A picture may be worth 1,000 words, but here at 'The Dichotomy of the Dog', we'll settle for 217 a day.

I have been in a creative funk recently. Let’s say the last several months, or maybe for a year or more. I don’t know when it began, and it’s not like the well has totally run dry. I have, after all, written many reviews and several lengthy album anniversary retrospective features for the PopMatters website in just the last year.
However, I feel like I want to follow the lead of Posh, Sporty, Baby, Bashful, and Doc and spice up my life with a self-imposed creative challenge. To that end, I have decided to repurpose my online journal The Dichotomy of the Dog to become the repository for daily mini-essays, each exactly 217 words long. I’ll explain that number later. This is the first of those efforts.
The subject matter of these pieces? Whatever floats through my mental transom, though hopefully not written in such a way that I throw an idea out there and just vamp on it for 200 words. I’m trying to get back to a daily journal keeping habit as well, so perhaps those entries will feed into these mini-essays.
I just now looked up “transom” to make sure I have one of the mental variety. And, indeed, I believe I do.
We will see how this goes. Follow along if you like!
